Capricorn Saint’s Excalibur Ranks Among Top Five Gold Saints

Throughout the generations of Gold Saints, the Excalibur has remained the signature and ultimate technique of the Capricorn Saints. It is not a physical weapon but rather a manifestation of unparalleled destructive power achieved through rigorous training of the limbs. Shattering stone and splitting the earth are mere child’s play for those who have mastered this formidable ability.
The Pinnacle of Excalibur: El Cid of the 18th Century
In the Holy War of 1743, depicted in The Lost Canvas, the Capricorn Gold Saint El Cid elevated the Excalibur to its zenith. As a former close aide to Sagittarius Gold Saint Sisyphus—a candidate for the Pope—El Cid was entrusted with investigating the Four Dream Gods, subordinates of the deity Hypnos.
Soul Blade and Dimension Slash
El Cid’s mastery went beyond conventional combat. He could channel his Cosmo to forge a Soul Blade, capable of inflicting damage not only on the physical form but also severing the very soul of his adversaries—though the blade itself would shatter upon use. Furthermore, his Excalibur evolved into a Dimension Slash, enabling him to cut through space itself and traverse into alternate dimensions.
Resilience and Sacrifice
El Cid faced only one defeat in his lifetime, at the hands of the spatial-manipulating Oneiros, who reflected the Excalibur’s power and severed El Cid’s right hand. Yet, this setback fueled his ingenuity. In their rematch, he devised a new technique—Excalibur Blood Formation—to decisively defeat Oneiros and reclaim his honor.
Ultimately, El Cid sacrificed himself to protect Pegasus Seiya from Oneiros’s final attack, perishing in the ensuing explosion. Even in death, his spirit joined the other Gold Saints in a final, collective assault against Hades.
The Heart of a Capricorn Warrior
Though stern and reserved in demeanor, El Cid embodied the unwavering loyalty and burning passion characteristic of Capricorn Saints. His cold exterior belied a profound commitment to his comrades and cause. With the Excalibur as his legacy, El Cid rightfully stands as one of Athena’s most devoted and powerful warriors, whose strength undoubtedly places him among the top five Gold Saints of all time.
